Designated as UNS N06601 or W.Nr. 2.4851, Inconel 601 (also called “Alloy 601”) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with an addition of aluminum for outstanding resistance to oxidation, and other forms of high-temperature corrosion as well as improved nitriding resistance. It also has high mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. Inconel 601 may be used for industrial furnaces, heat-treating equipment such as baskets, muffles, and retorts, strand-annealing tubes, petrochemical and other process equipment, burner nozzles, gas turbine equipment, superheater tube supports & grid barriers of power plant piping, etc.

Processing heat treatment of Inconel 601 (Alloy 601/UNS N06601)
Inconel 601 (UNS n06601) nickel base alloy is not a precipitation hardening alloy, so it can not be age hardened by heat treatment. When the temperature reaches 900 ℃ after cold working, the material will soften. If the material needs high temperature strength, the solution heat treatment at 1100 ~ 1200 ℃ is recommended. At this time, the cooling method is water cooling, and air cooling can also be used according to the plate thickness. However, in order to avoid carbide precipitation, it is recommended to cool as soon as possible in the temperature range of 500 ~ 800 ℃.
Processability of Inconel 601 (Alloy 601/UNS N06601)
Inconel 601 (UNS n06601) nickel base alloy is easy to hot work. The heating temperature is 1150 ~ 1200 ℃, and the hot working temperature is 1050 ~ 1200 ℃. The simple processing can be carried out below 850 ℃. Cracking will occur in the temperature range of 650 ~ 850 ℃, please avoid this temperature range for processing. In order to avoid carbide precipitation, it is suggested to increase the cooling rate in the range of 500 ~ 800 ℃. 601 alloy has excellent cold workability and can be processed as SUS 310S and alloy800.
